S.L Wine Bar was born from a simple idea — that people deserve a space that feels like home, even when they’re out in public. A place where the music is good, the cocktails are crafted with care, and every person who walks through the door is greeted like family.

Founded by husband-and-wife duo Deja and Chris, S.L Wine Bar began as an idea inspired by passion, persistence, and a love for people. Originally, Deja set out to open an event space — something rooted in hospitality and connection. But after her mother introduced her to the concept of a gaming café, that idea evolved. What started as a business built on profitability soon transformed into a brand built on purpose.

After exploring wine bars across the country, Deja envisioned something different for Chicago’s South Suburbs — a space that blended city sophistication with neighborhood comfort. When S.L Wine Bar opened its doors, it was met with enthusiasm, but also with a realization: people didn’t just want to play games — they wanted to feel something. They wanted the energy, intimacy, and culture that reminded them of “Up North” experiences, but right here in their community.

So, Deja and Chris listened. They reimagined everything — from décor and drink menus to music and events — transforming S.L into the warm, soulful lounge it is today.

Our ambience is sultry and warm, filled with the sound of R&B, hip-hop, and jazz from every era — music that tells stories just like we do. Our service is personal and familiar; we’re on a first-name basis with most of our guests.

We host everything from live jam sessions, mixers, and poetry nights to thoughtful forums and creative showcases — each designed to bring people together through culture and conversation.

And at the center of it all are Deja and Chris — a young Black couple building not just a business, but a legacy. Their authenticity, humor, and commitment to excellence shape every part of S.L’s experience. Guests often say that visiting S.L feels like walking into their favorite auntie’s basement — cozy, sexy, and filled with good energy.
